The Honorable Chairman and Managing director got his education in Dhaka, the Capital of Bangladesh, and graduated in Science from the University of Dhaka, known as the Oxford of East and also the oldest & most significant Alma Mater of Bangladesh. Later on, he obtained higher education in Advanced General Management from Germany with a scholarship from the German Government.

By dint of his perseverance and talent, Mr. Awal has established himself as a visionary industrialist and business personality of the country. Among his establishments, Textiles, Steel Engineering and Shipbreaking are the prime sectors. He is the founder of the esteemed Prime Group of Industries wherein Prime Textile Spinning Mills Ltd., Prime Composite Mills Ltd., and Prime Mélange Yarn Mills Ltd. are the prestigious and modern Spinning Mills of the country. Prime Steel Re-Rolling Mills Ltd., Prime Steel Mills Ltd., Doleshwar Iron & Engineering Works Ltd., and industries of many other sectors are also under the umbrella of the Group.

Mr. Awal is actively associated with many educational institutions. He is the Life Member of the Board of Governors of North South University Foundation and Permanent Member of North South University Board of Trust, the first private university in Bangladesh, and shouldered the responsibilities as its Chairman for 5 years in 3 terms from 1995-1998 and 2008-2009. This university is a world-class Alma Mater running very well and is associated with top universities in the US.

Mr. M A Awal is the promoter of a private sector bank and an insurance company. He is also Director on one of the Top Private Bank, National Credit and Commerce Bank (NCCB) and he was Chairman for the first two years from 1996 to 1998. He steered the Bank during the early crucial period of its journey as a full fledged private commercial Bank.

He has been in the Executive Committee of various Association & Trade Bodies such as the Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce & Industry (MCCI), Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA), an active member of the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce & Industry (DCCI), International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) and Bangladesh Commerce & Industry (BCI) and Federation of Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce & Industry (FBCCI). He and Deputy Managing Director (DMD) both are the permanent members of the SARC Chamber of Commerce.

He was the Chairman twice in Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA) from 2003-2006, the Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce & Industry (MCCI), and in Federation of Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce & Industries (FBCCI). Mr. M A Awal has played a leading role to declare the textile industries of Bangladesh as “Thrust Sector” by the Government of Bangladesh and also took a pioneering role to develop this sector. He has set-up Prime Textile Spinning Mills Ltd., the first export-oriented textile spinning mill to develop the backward linkage facilities for Apparel & Knit Garment industry.

He is also the Chairman of the Board of Doleswar Sporting Club, a Dhaka Premier Division Cricket Team in Bangladesh

Never forgetting his roots, he has always stood beside people at their hour of need. Always first to reach out when the situation required it such as distributing food to flood victims, medicine for those who cannot afford it. Even during this pandemic when people were unable to work and could not support their families, the Honorable Chairman distributed more than 4000 packets of food as relief amongst the worst hit family by this Covid-19 pandemic.

Mr. Awal’s empathy for the poor and other needy groups of people of the society is remarkable. He is the Founder of Doleshwar Kallayn Sangstha (Welfare Trust), an organization for extending support to education, health, and welfare of the society. The village where he was born and grew up in; Doleswar, east of the Burigonga River, he has established Doleshwar Adarsha High School and Doleshwar Abdul Mannan Adarsha Mohabiddalaya in honor of his Late Father Alhaj Abdul Mannan by the Sanghstha(Trust).

In this school and college students from the locality can attend and get their education. Both the school and college are run and maintained under the Trust and it does not receive any funds from the Government for teachers and staff salary (MPO-Monthly Pay Order). To help the villagers of low income earning he built a Family Health Planning Clinic for women under the name Konda Union Family Planning Clinic and another 10-bed hospital was also built in a different location to treat both genders under the same name, both are located at his village Doleswar and entrusted it to the Government so that the people can have easy access to medicine and doctors. He has made a countless selfless contributions to Bangladeshi people through various philanthropic ventures.
